This Deluxe Room is dedicated to one of Italy’s greatest abstract artists who we were honoured to host numerous times during the 1950s. He was at the forefront of the metaphysical art movement but always appreciated staying in the classic comfort of our Grand Hotel et de Milan. Elegant interiors finished in polished parquet, mahogany and luxurious soft furnishings made a warm home for his extended stays. Of course, our technology was always upto the minute.
De Chirico enjoyed the our proximity to Alexander Iolas his friend and gallerist on Via Manzoni. The ‘Svengali’ of the art world, Iolas began his curatorial career when completely seduced by De Chirico’s work, which was the first modern painting he’d ever admired. Iolas maintained an influence over the art world with likes of De Chirico, Andy Warhol and Max Ernst. De Chirico’s final stay with us was during the 1973 Milan Art Triennale, for which he created the famously enigmatic Mysterious Baths Fountain.
