In 1902 Fred Gaisberg, pioneer of the recording industry, captured Caruso’s voice on vinyl in our legendary hotel and launched the world’s first music superstar. The leading tenor at La Scala had demanded an exorbitant fee of £100 and was greatly amused as he contemplated 2000 copies would have to be sold for Gaisberg to recoup the cost. In fact, the recording sold over 300,000 copies making it an extremely profitable enterprise. Gaisberg certainly knew what he was doing, in the future he founded EMI.
This Junior Suite has ceiling height French windows overlooking the Milanese shopping streets. The walls feature the cartoon Caruso sketched for Gaisberg depicting the historic recording. Classical furnishings are matched with bold designer fabrics. The bathroom has a double vanity unit and a separate shower.
